I’m sure we’ve all been there with forehead acne. You wake up and look in the mirror in shock of what you see. What kind of monster has erupted on your forehead overnight?! Yup, I know the feeling. Then, you scramble to find out how to get rid of forehead acne. You jump on Google and type forehead acne treatment and pray for a miracle. Well hopefully this is the answer to your prayers as it was mine! Let’s get to work.
Causes and Cures to Forehead Acne
When I had small pimples on forehead, I didn’t really pay a lot of attention to it. I continued with my normal routine of washing, toner and moisturizer. That’s it. It never occurred to me that the acne on forehead could be from sources other than the common clogged pores or hormones.
However, those regular little zits begged me to question my knowledge and led to some research on why I got regular pimple on forehead unlike the other places. I discovered this acne-face map which was created by the ancient Chinese. This was used to map the external abnormalities to their actual internal root cause. They believed that the external abnormalities were actually triggered by internal factors and depicted them in this map. Forehead Acne Causes
The ancient Chinese clearly believed that forehead acne is related to digestive disorders. Obviously, there can be other causes that trigger acne forehead. Some of the ones I’ve used are mentioned below (and feel free to comment on your experience):
1. Clogged Pores
- One of the main and universal cause of acne.
- Clogged pores can be dealt easily with a good CTM (Cleanse, Tone, Moisturize) routine followed by a monthly steam session.
- Be Cautious NOT to overdo the steaming session.
Obviously this would be the first cause for forehead acne. However, one common misconception is that all faces are alike. You should study your face to determine if your clogged pores are due to excessive oil, excessive dead skin cells, or possible environmental factors. Sometimes a “one-size-fits-all” wash may not be the best method for how to get rid of acne on forehead.
2. Potential Digestive Issues
- A digestive problem is the most likely cause of forehead acne (as mentioned with the Chinese map).
- This can only be tackled with a well balanced diet.
- Drink lots of water (I shoot for 4 Camelbak containers per day).
- Are you getting the 5-9 fruits & veggies per day (maybe start with 2-3 if not and work up to it).
- Avoid fried foods and artificial sweeteners. Picture this, every time you eat that cheeseburger, fried chicken, or greasy pizza, you have to wipe the food on your forehead and leave the grease there. That’s basically what you’re doing when you eat it.
- Exercising regularly should be a no brainer. Goal is MINIMUM 30 minutes of increase heart rate 3 times per week.
3. Your Hair Might Have Dandruff
- I know you don’t have it, but double check because dandruff can easily trigger acne on forehead.
- Try a good anti-dandruff shampoo and conditioner combo.
4. You Could Have An Oily Scalp
- Oil from an oily scalp can easily trickle down and clog pores to cause the forehead acne.
- Be sure to wash your hair regularly to avoid an oily scalp.
5. Are You Over-Stressed?
- Stress contributes to a surprisingly large amount of illnesses including your acne forehead.
- Find out what stresses you out (ask others if you’re unsure).
- Yoga and meditation are common stress relievers.
- Other methods for stress relief depend on your personality. Some people love exercise, shopping, manicure/pedicure, spa days, etc. Pick one or two.
6. Certain Hair or Cosmetic Products
- Forehead acne can be triggered by hair sprays, dyes, colorings, hair creams, etc. Check the label and test the market
- Women with bangs are usually more susceptible to forehead acne.
- Take a break occasionally from makeup. Give your face a day to “breathe” unless you’re sure you use an oil-free type makeup.
- ALWAYS take makeup and cosmetics off at night!
7. Avoid Over Exfoliating
- Exfoliating is great and removes old, dead cells to keep skin looking fresh.
- But overdoing it with exfoliation can irritate skin causing forehead acne.
- Aim to exfoliate twice per week at most.
8. Wearing A Helmet or Baseball Cap
- Helmets and caps trap dirt and oil over time. If you can, use a spare clean towel to put on your forehead while using them. This may not be feasible in every situation but make an effort.
- Wipe your helmet after each use to remove dirt and oil.
- Wash caps regularly.
9. Certain Medications
- Medications are tough to clearly identify in this article due to the large variance in type and usages. Some allergy medications, birth control prescriptions, etc. have shown cases of breakouts. Investigate with a doctor or pharmacy technician who specialize in those areas.
- Ask your doctor each time you receive a prescription. Specifically about any acne side-effects.
10. Bedding and Pillow Sheets
- Look to change your sheets and bed pillows regularly. Preferably weekly or twice a week if the forehead acne is bad. You probably spend anywhere between 35 and 56 hours per week rolling your face, hair and neck on those pillow sheets. All they do is collect dirt and oil and rub that back on your skin.
- Otherwise, use a towel over your pillow for 2 days per week flipping the towel after each use. This could extend the life of pillow sheet washing if you have plenty of towels as most people seem to.
11. Genetic And Hormonal Factors
- Genetic and hormonal factors are the most difficult to handle.
- This is another instance where talking to a doctor or other professional is recommended. Some medications can help with these acne issues.
Homemade Remedies for Acne
Below are a few incredible remedies that will help reduce the acne on forehead regardless of the cause:
1. Face Mask for Acne
- Several types of face mask for acne exist depending on skin type.
- Homemade vs buying a product depends on your preference.
- This mask will leave behind fresh and supple skin that you’ll love
- Remember to sleep on a towel if using the mask overnight.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
- Apple cider vinegar is great for pimples on head scalp.
- Use a cotton swab and dab apple cider vinegar onto the affected area once or twice a day but no more.
- ACV works best on a single beastly pimple or blemish spot.
- Remember it is unnecessary to rinse the apple cider vinegar from your face, unless you used large amounts and feel you should.
3. Lemon Juice
- The lemon is an old faithful forehead acne remedy.
- Dab a few drops of lemon on the zits and leave it on overnight.
- Avoid using lemon juice during the daytime and focus on nighttime application.
- Lemon juice makes your skin photosensitive and can cause many more blemishes or sun damage.
4. Honey for Acne
- Honey can be used raw or combined with other ingredients to create a powerful mask.
- Honey is a natural anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant rich, and moisturizing compound to deal with acne.
- Honey is a trade secret is many top-of-the-line beauty products.
5. Essential Oils for Acne
- Using essential oils for acne will leave your skin fresh and rejuvenated while attacking the deep acne.
- Dab a bit of the oil onto the zits, and they will slowly diminish.
- Check your diet to see how you’re doing on Vitamin A, B5, E, fish oil, and zinc
